Major Update

Nested Groups, Self-Measuring Assemblies, Scale Check, and Free Tools

Organize groups inside groups, apply assembly templates that fill in their own quantities as you trace, catch a wrong scale before it costs you, and meet the new free calculators and PDF tools.

Highlights

  • Groups nest four levels deep, with hide, lock, and solo for whole branches
  • Assembly templates lay out the quantities to trace and keep their math live
  • Area corners align as you draw, so shapes square up and close cleanly
  • Scale Check flags a page whose scale contradicts the sheet, one tap to fix
  • 12 free construction calculators and 8 free PDF tools, right in your browser
  • Sign PDFs for free, and shrink image-heavy PDFs while text stays sharp

Groups Inside Groups

Groups can now hold groups, four levels deep, so the takeoff can mirror how you actually estimate: a trade, then a floor, then a unit, with the measurements inside. Hiding, locking, or soloing a group applies to everything under it, totals roll up branch by branch, and Move under re-files a group without redrawing a thing. CSV exports keep the full path, so nothing flattens on the way out.

Assemblies That Measure Themselves

Assembly templates can now declare the quantities they need, like Ridge, Valley, and Eave for a roof. Apply the template and it lays out a colored sub-group for each one, a built-in checklist of what to trace. Measure into those groups and the numbers flow straight into the template's math, updating live as the drawing changes. Any quantity can stay manual when you would rather type it. The new Asphalt Roofing template ships built this way end to end.

Square Corners as You Draw

While you draw an area, each new corner quietly lines up with the corners you already placed, so walls come out parallel and shapes close cleanly instead of landing a hair off. A light guide shows the alignment as it happens. Hold Alt to place a point exactly where your cursor is, and the new Point alignment setting tunes the strength or turns it off.

Scale Check

A wrong scale is the most expensive quiet mistake in a takeoff. When a page's applied scale does not match any scale the sheet itself shows, the scale chip now turns amber and a small card names both. One tap applies the sheet's scale to just that page, one tap keeps yours.

Setting up a whole document got faster too: one action in the scale window reads every sheet and applies each page's own scale in a single undoable step, after showing you exactly what will change.

Free Calculators and PDF Tools

Easy Takeoffs now has a free side, no account needed. Twelve construction calculators cover concrete, roofing, roof pitch, square footage, drywall, block, asphalt, framing, tile, gravel, mulch, and stairs, each built on the real formulas contractors use, with waste factors where the trade calls for them. Eight PDF tools split, merge, extract, delete pages, rotate, convert to JPG, compress, and sign. Everything runs in your browser, so your files are never uploaded anywhere. You will find it all under Resources in the site menu.

Two of the PDF tools are worth a closer look. Sign PDF places your signature, drawn, typed, or uploaded, exactly where you click on any page. Compress PDF leads with a Shrink images mode that makes the photos and scans inside a file lighter while every line and label stays sharp and selectable. In our testing, a 148 MB architectural set came out at 102 MB and still read like the original.

Quality of Life Fixes

Flip a label to the other side. When a length label sits on the wrong side of a line, one tap moves it across, on screen, in exports, and in shared views.

Drop a PDF anywhere on the dashboard. Drag a file onto the projects screen and the upload starts, no button hunting.

Shortcut hints match your keyboard. Every shortcut surface now shows Mac keys on a Mac and Ctrl and Alt everywhere else.

A new Soffit & Fascia template. Linear footage times depth, with a traced-area option, ready in the template library.

Steadier rendering. On Safari, documents open reliably on older versions and pages stay sharp after heavy zooming. On every device, a very large sheet that fails to appear retries itself automatically at a size the machine can handle.
